This report presents statistics on selected characteristics of the 101,808 inmates who were in the California State correctional institutions on December 31, 1991.
Abstract
Data are provided regarding offenses, race, offender age, the distribution of ages in each institution, the area and county of commitment, and parole and outpatient return status of current inmates. Among the 100,590 inmates whose offenses were known, 42,566 were committed for violent offenses, 26,543 for property offenses, 24,644 for drug law offenses, and 6,837 for other offenses. The offenders included 1,515 under age 20, 18,580 ages 20-24, 25,643 ages 25-29, 23,496 ages 30-34, 15,554 ages 35-39, 8,827 ages 40- 44, 4,093 ages 45-49, and the rest 50 or over. Tables
