Based upon monthly crime and arrest reports submitted by 323 law enforcement agencies throughout Wisconsin, this report presents statistics on Index crimes and arrests for 1992.
Abstract
The first half of the report presents statewide information on crime and arrests, together with individual sections on each Index crime. The second half of the report contains more detailed crime and arrest information for individual jurisdictions within the State, organized alphabetically by county. There were 218,031 serious crimes (Index offenses) reported in 1992, a decrease of 2.2 percent from 1991. The violent Index crime increased by 0.2 percent in 1992 and has increased by 52.7 percent from 1981 to 1992. Overall, 24.6 percent of the Index crimes were cleared. There were major increases in certain Part II arrests, including weapon law violations (10 percent), vandalism (6.2 percent), drug law violations (20.3 percent), runaways (12.6 percent), and disorderly conduct (5.6 percent). Persons between 18 and 20 years of age accounted for nearly 54 percent of the 39,148 arrests for liquor law violations. For the first year since 1983, no Wisconsin law enforcement officers were killed while in the performance of their duty. There were 882 reported assaults on law enforcement officers, a 12-percent decrease from the 1,002 in 1991. 9 tables
