Abstract
A total of 3,825 offenders (3,545 men and 280 women) were released from Wisconsin prisons during the reporting period; 76.9 percent were first releases, 18.4 percent were re- releases, and 4.7 percent were released after alternative to revocation placements, after completion of revocation hearings, or for other reasons. Over 90 percent of the offenders released entered community supervision or parole; the remainder were discharged at completion of sentence, released after completion of revocation hearings, or died while institutionalized. Male offenders on their first or second release, who had served an average sentence of 63 months, had most frequently committed unarmed robbery, drug offenses, and theft. The most common offenses for female offenders, who were released after serving an average sentence of 48.3 months, were drug violations, forgery, and theft. 15 tables
