This report details the purposes and activities during 1992-93 of the central organization that was established in 1960 to represent the local probation committees to the central government of the United Kingdom to promote the effective operation and use of probation.
Abstract
During the past year, the Central Council of Probation Committees has focused on internal structural and organizational changes intended to improve effectiveness and on improving the effectiveness of local probation committees in providing leadership to the probation service. The council sponsored a conference and a seminar, issued publications, established committees to examine several aspects of probation, and conducted lobbying efforts on several issues. The council regards the promotion of probation as a major task, with training of sentencers an essential component in the successful implementation of probation. Photographs
