Date Published
1993
Length
33 pages

This manual is designed as a guideline for performance objective-based law enforcement basic training developed for the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
Abstract
The knowledge domain represented by this manual is crimes against children. The first chapter covers offenses that would be defined as child endangerment or cruelty toward a child; this is followed by a specific discussion of physical child abuse. In the third section, the police student will learn under what circumstances an officer, suspecting child abuse, neglect, or endangerment, can legally enter without a warrant, based on case law. Other sections discuss the legal aspects of lewd acts upon a child, annoying or molesting children, possession of child pornography, and unlawful sexual intercourse. The final chapters deal with reporting requirements of suspected child abuse and the consequences of failure to report suspected abuse.
