The department is divided into five subdivisions: executive (internal affairs, legal bureau), administrative (business and personnel, training, police reserves), patrol, investigative (juvenile, detective, narcotics, intelligence), and support operations (technical services, management information, communications, special forces). During 1992, the Division of Police purchased the F.A.T.S. firearms training system simulator, capable of providing realistic, real-time simulation of various scenarios using laser and video technology. The Communications Bureau converted all patrol vehicles to new 800 MHz radios and continued to install hardware for the Computer Aided Dispatching System. The PC Systems Unit was instituted as part of the Management Information Bureau in an effort to refine the department's computer network and enhance the development of custom applications.
