The second European and North American Conference on urban safety and the prevention of crime was held in Paris in November 1991. It was convened by several federations of local communities including the Forum of European local communities for urban safety, the Canadian Federation of Mayors, and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
Abstract
The scientific committee, composed of 15 criminal justice experts representing a wide range of countries, continents, and specialties, assessed the crime and prevention situation in various countries and regions, presented conclusions at the Paris conference, and collaborated in the publication of this report. The themes discussed at the conference included prevention policies, prevention policies specifically aimed at youth, prevention policies and drug abuse, local responses to recidivism, and prevention and the mass media. Members of the scientific committee presented papers on the "state of knowledge" in Brazil, the Federal Republic of Germany, Latin America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Spain, Belgium, Italy, the U.K., Africa, France, Poland, Sweden, the U.S., and the Netherlands.
