The security training, hiring, and services at Seabrook Station, a commercial nuclear power plant in New Hampshire, are provided by a small contract security agency, Green Mountain Security Services, Inc. under the regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
Abstract
Green Mountain is under the proprietary control of the North Atlantic Energy Services Corporation (NAESCO), the holding company that operates the plant. Hiring takes place according to NRC and New Hampshire guidelines. The security training program is similar to those found at most commercial nuclear power plants. Initial training consists of about 240 hours of classroom instruction and practical applications. In addition, each officer takes classes one day every 4 weeks to meet annual recertification requirements. The 40 critical training tasks include ten tasks that are presented to two specialized groups: those who work the alarm stations and those who are supervisors. The training program receives feedback from regular audits by the NRC, NAESCO, and independent organizations and from two internal methods, a quality assurance program and random sample testing using written examinations.
