The legal position of the child in different spheres of the Slovenian legal system is critically analyzed and compared to the standards of the UN Convention on Children's Rights.
Abstract
Following an introduction of general issues of children's rights and their historical, sociological, and political aspects, the analysis examines children's rights under international law. In addition to the UN Convention, the book explores the protection of children in areas of armed conflicts and under exceptional circumstances. The third section of the book critiques domestic Slovenian legislation related to children's rights in the areas of family law, personal rights, educational rights, social security and health care, and work. The analysis demonstrates that, in contrast to the UN Convention which posits that children have inherent personal rights, Slovenian law holds that parents may exercise their children's rights on their behalf.
