Abstract
Emphasis is on the value of good planning and preparation. A criminal justice career image is contrasted with the reality for example, the "danger quotient" or excitement allure in reality is much lower than popular image would suggest. Chapters cover the five major fields: law enforcement, corrections, courts, forensic science, and private security, and a dialogue with some professionals in these fields. The authors recommend earning a college degree and "testing the waters" by volunteering to land in the most appropriate type of career. Guidelines are included on how to prepare a resume and cover letter, and pointers on job interview preparation and conduct. 71 references, sample resume and cover letter, and list of resources for further career information
