This 1992 conference was sponsored by the State Justice Institute to examine the judicial role in drug abuse, drug law enforcement, and drug treatment.
Abstract
Conference participants considered the relapse and failure of drug-involved defendants, alcohol and drug assessment, diversion or court-ordered drug treatment, and drug abuse by mentally ill and homeless persons. Model program workshops were held that highlighted the role of courts in drug assessment and treatment. Panel discussions and special seminars focused on drug abuse research, acupuncture, the special needs of women, HIV and drug abuse, regional cooperation in drug control, drug abuse issues in suburban and rural courts, and residential drug treatment.
