Data used in this report are provided by the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) section of the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center. In 1992, approximately 300 agencies reported known offenses to the Uniform Crime Reporting section; 99 percent of the State's law enforcement agencies submitted incident reports and 1 percent returned UCR summaries. There were 202,733 crimes reported in 1992, a 3-percent decrease from 1991; the crime rate for the State was 4,901.7 per 100,000 inhabitants. On a daily average, there were 555 Part I offenses reported. The total property value stolen in 1992 was $202,092,820; 19 percent was recovered. There were 342 law enforcement officers assaulted in 1992; 41 percent received serious injuries, and 59 percent received minimal or no injuries. There were 44,632 clearances in 1992, providing a clearance rate of 22 percent. A total of 35,605 persons were arrested for Part I offenses; Part I arrests composed 20 percent of all arrests in Alabama in 1992. A total of 152,805 people were arrested for Part II offenses; 5 percent of Part II arrests were juveniles. Data are broken down by city, county, and Metropolitan Statistical Area. The criminal disposition data address case resolutions for 1988, 1989, and 1990.
