The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) published by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 1992 gives a nationwide view of crime, based on statistics contributed by State and local law enforcement agencies, and contains statistics on index offenses reported and cleared, persons arrested, and law enforcement personnel.
Abstract
The UCR program represents the cooperative statistical effort of over 16,000 city, county, and State law enforcement agencies. Data are compiled regionally and by State and locality for violent crimes, property crimes, forcible rape, murder, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Murder statistics are classified by month; victim and offender age, sex, and race; victim-offender relationship; and type of weapon used. Crime trends are tabulated and compared on offenses known to the police during 1991 and 1992 and on the type and value of property stolen and recovered. Statistics on index offenses cleared are provided according to population group, geographic region, and offense type. Arrest statistics are tabulated by region, population group, age, sex, and race, with data on arrest trends included. A section on burglary and automobile theft contains data that demonstrate the kind of latent information available through analytic models. The final section on law enforcement personnel tabulates data on full- time law enforcement personnel, police officers, civilian employees, State and local employees, and personnel employed in suburban and rural counties. Further information on the UCR program methodology, offenses, and crime measures is appended. Tables and figures
