The Colt M2000 is 9mm caliber, with polymer or aluminum frame, 15 shot magazine capacity, simplistic operation, no external safeties or decocking levers, striker fire design, no hammer, trigger cocking action, or single-action or double-action only. It has interchangeable barrel lengths, with the exchange being as simple as field stripping the gun. The test samples released to gun writers a year ago yielded lukewarm articles on the gun, largely due to the gun's not going into battery. Modifications after the initial issue, however, have constituted a major rebuild. It included new slide with hardness test approved, new improved striker, new updated extractor, new polished barrel, new pinned recoil spring with metal washer, polished cam block feed ramp, trigger assembly with three beveled rollers and one full, sear polished trigger pull smooth, new magazine with filed base plate, and new follower. The M2000 is now an excellent high-capacity 9mm pistol that is simple to operate, making it an excellent entry into the next century of police work.
