Abstract
The first part of the book discusses the various dimensions of sexually exploitative practice, as it provides an overview of contexts and concepts and examines the effects of counselor sexual exploitation on clients. The discussion focuses on practitioners in their particular settings, as it explores sexuality and power and how these are relevant within the therapeutic process. The author draws on her own research with clients, as she relates her analysis to clients' own accounts of their experiences of sexual exploitation. The second part of the book addresses the implications of the discussion for actual practice. The author discusses the ethical perspectives on the problem and reviews and evaluates current codes of professional practice. Models are presented for understanding and working with sexuality and sexual abuse in counseling and therapy and for supervision as a process concerned both with practitioner development and client safety. The author also describes some of her own work in counselor training. The book concludes with recommendations for additional work in this area. 96 references and a subject index
