Data broken down by region, county, and agency show the incidence of index crimes--murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, breaking or entering, larceny, motor vehicle theft, arson, and spouse abuse--and are compared to corresponding data from 1991. Ten-year trends are also shown. Sections contain data on offender characteristics, arrests, and law enforcement officers killed and assaulted. In 1992, the victimization rate was 6,223.6 per 100,000 population--a 0.2 percent increase from 1991. For violent crimes, the rate was 999.2 per 100,000 population, and the increase 5.0 percent. There were 596 murders--a rate of 12.1 per 100,000 population and an increase of 5.0 percent from 1991. Three law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty.
