To be cost-effective, the system had to improve the capture rate of red light offenses in any one of one-, two-, or three-lane installations; achieve acceptable capture rates in four-lane installations; operate effectively regardless of light conditions; and improve the quality of nighttime images. The equipment in the Image Master system acts not only as a red light camera, but also records speed through an intersection and on the open road. The camera can be attached to existing radar and laser guns. This integrated system can cut the costs of operating noncompatible systems by 75 percent. Highly versatile and flexible, the Image Master system can automatically change its focal length and angles, preprogram its flash according to light conditions, be used in existing red light installations, and be programmed to accept or reject various borderline offenses.
