This report presents statistics on the juvenile delinquency cases and juvenile status offense cases handled by the juvenile courts in 1990.
Abstract
The national estimates are based on an analysis of 631,075 automated case records from more than 1,200 courts, as well as court-level summary statistics from more than 300 additional courts. These courts had jurisdiction over 62 percent of the juvenile population of the United States in 1990. The juvenile courts handled an estimated 1,264,800 juvenile delinquency cases and 86,700 status offense cases in 1990, representing increases of 4 percent and 3 percent respectively from the previous year. Statistics are presented on juvenile detention, offense characteristic, dispositions, and the characteristics of juvenile offenders. Tables and figures
