The New Orleans Offender Study Database consists of five files containing information on 22,497 offenders arrested for burglary or armed robbery in New Orleans during the 1973-1986 period.
Abstract
The files include information on arrests, periods of criminal justice supervision and custody, employment, demography (race, sex, and date of birth), and aptitude and diagnostic tests obtained at Louisiana's juvenile institution. The DEMJUV file contains records on juvenile drug experiences, educational achievement and attendance, and parish of residence. The DEMEMP file provides information on arrestee employment status and occupation, while the DEMOGR file includes basic demographic information. The CHGFILE maintains arrest information, while the CUSFILE contains supervision and custody information on offenders. Coding procedures for the five files are provided, and detailed descriptions of data variables are appended.
