Following a classroom discussion regarding the advisability of allowing gang members to attend the college, this professor decided that his students should be free of any gang-related intimidation in class. Because this college did not have a dress code that prohibited gang members from wearing their colors, the professor decided to make a change in his classroom policy vis-a-vis wearing hats, but he did it in a way that avoided offending or antagonizing any student accustomed to wearing a hat to class, whether or not a gang member. After his own classroom policy was successfully implemented, the professor was asked by the college administration to draft a policy on wearing gang colors.
