Four papers report evaluations of various situational crime prevention measures, including case studies of actions taken by the St. Louis police to deal with drug houses via problem-oriented policing; case studies of crime prevention in the Netherlands involving a public housing project, the public transport system, a shopping center, and three schools; and case studies of crime prevention involving motor vehicle theft. Other papers look at crime rates in terms of crime opportunities, in the context of gasoline drive offs from convenience stores and residential crimes, and consider ways of preventing these crimes. The remaining papers deal with theoretical aspects of crime prevention and include a new classification of crime prevention activity based on the notion of proximal circumstances (combination of the immediate situation and the offender's disposition).
