Nearly 100 reserve officers have completed the course over the past two years. The correspondence portion of the course consists of seven modules which must be finished before officers attend the weeklong practical. The modules cover an introduction to modern law enforcement, police procedures, patrol procedures, general and special investigations, law, firearms proficiency, and enforcement skills. The practical component consists of instruction in crime scene investigation, firearms training, arrest techniques training, and firearms range qualification. The correspondence program is evaluated on a continuous basis by the Peace Officers Standards and Training Academy (POST) for Idaho.
