One project will test and evaluate the ultraviolet detection of metal traces to determine whether a person has been carrying a weapon. Another project will focus on developing reliable standards for the evaluation of law enforcement equipment such as bullet-proof shields. Additional projects will train police in family crisis intervention, train dogs to detect hidden explosives in buildings, evaluate the effectiveness of a bomb disposal basket, the study the voiceprint technique of voice identification. Further projects will focus on forensic applications of spark source mass spectrometry and neutron activation analysis for trace element analysis and identification, evaluate police helicopter operations in several jurisdictions, and compare courtroom transcription techniques.
