The first section describes the general structure and nature of specific crime groups: Ethnic Chinese organized crime, Vietnamese gangs, and Japanese organized crime. Next, the activities of Chinese and Vietnamese organized crime in New York City, Northern California, and Southern California are summarized. The following section is devoted to specific organized crime activities including narcotics trafficking, gambling operations, extortion, home invasion robberies, prostitution, alien smuggling, money laundering, computer chip theft, credit card counterfeiting, and control of Asian entertainment. A section on the challenges facing international law enforcement surveys the enforcement systems of other countries which are threatened by Asian organized crime: Hong Kong, Taiwan, the People's Republic of China, other Asian countries, Canada, and Japan. Last, the Committee's recommendations concerning international cooperation and initiatives, domestic initiatives, and immigration issues are listed. The report concludes that Asian criminal groups have become a worldwide threat and that US and foreign law enforcement entities are ill equipped to meet the challenge. Several charts are appended.
