Abstract
This report summarizes the various sources of data available on the elderly. An attempt was made to present information that would be useful in planning programs to address the needs of older Delawareans. Relying substantially upon the Elderly Victims Special Report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the report provides an overview of the nature and extent of elderly victimizations. Other reference sources include the U.S. Bureau of Census 1989 Report, Report of the Nation of Crime and Justice, BJS and Crime Victimization in City, Suburban, and Rural Areas, BJS. Included is a table depicting the breakdown by age and type of crime for 1980-1985. Also included in the report are four tables containing statistical data for the years 1973- 1985 regarding attacks, injuries, medical treatment, and hospital care received by elderly violent crime victims, police reporting rates by age of victim and type of crime, and average annual victimization rates and number of victimizations by age of elderly victim and type of crime.
