The first paper proposes a model residential building security code as a means of enhancing building security and safety for its residents. The second paper presents a synergistic approach to security in public housing, that combines sensitivity to social factors with hardware used for physical protection. The third chapter discusses community involvement in neighborhood crime prevention, and is followed by an examination of the concept of defensible space, or architectural designs for crime prevention. Another paper presents a theoretical approach to police involvement in crime prevention that emphasizes the need to reduce opportunity for potential offenders to learn criminal behavior. The final papers deal with the nature and patterns of residential and nonresidential burglaries and the need for citizens and the police to join forces in combatting crime.
