The ABA Task Force on Minorities and the Justice System recommended reforms in the areas of both criminal and civil justice, that related to the treatment of minorities by the police, courts, prosecution, and defense systems. This volume contains background on the Native American, Hispanic, National, and National Asian Pacific Bar Associations. Issues that are covered in detail here include race and gender bias in the courtroom, judicial appointments, and findings from the report of the New York State Judicial Commission on Minorities. Symposia held during the summit focused on barriers to racial and ethnic justice, death penalty issues, strategies for the development of minority recruitment and retention programs, and the justice system's ability to provide services free of bias.
