This update report notes that the Maryland State Police have signficantly implemented the concepts, organizational restructuring, redirection of personnel, civilianization, criminal and traffic enforcement activities, and cooperative agreements with State and local agencies that were specified in their role and mission study.
Abstract
Specific accomplishments include the completion of a mutual service agreement with the Anne Arundel County Police Department, an increase from 87.6 percent to 88.9 percent in the percentage of law enforcement personnel assigned to direct law enforcement functions, the replacement of 27 police positions with civilian positions, other measures involving reorganization, and cooperative efforts with Natural Resources Police. Other accomplishments include several criminal law enforcement initiatives, several traffic law enforcement initiatives, and exploration into the feasibility of increased service delivery with upgraded helicopters and expanded hours of operation for the Southern Maryland and Central Eastern Shore regions of the State.
