This curriculum, developed by the Tennessee Valley Authority's Training Division, provides the necessary training for inservice firearms instructors to transition personnel from the revolver to the Sig Sauer P226 semiautomatic pistol.
Abstract
Introduced in 1994, the curriculum has been developed to address the growing trend of converting to semiautomatic pistols by law enforcement personnel. The curriculum has been adapted by the Tennessee Valley Authority's Public Safety Service from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and will become the official "Practical Pistol Course" for the SIG SAUER P226 semiautomatic pistol. The training program uses lectures, demonstrations, and practical exercises and includes a written examination. Training topics concern pistol operational techniques, firing range and safety rules, fundamentals of marksmanship, pistol familiarization, and pistol use qualification. Firearm safety rules are identified, pistol maintenance procedures are described, and the advantages and disadvantages of revolvers versus semiautomatic pistols are noted. Illustrations
