The deaths involved 1,175 males and 456 females. Of these, 924 resulted from accidents, 586 from suicide, 67 from homicide, and 54 from unknown causes. The manner of death included drug overdose, gassing, burns, shooting, hanging, electrocution, suffocation, stabbing, assault, traffic accident, aircraft or boat accident, fall or jump, explosion, and malnutrition.
