This ethnographic study examines the street youth gangs of an Italian American slum in Boston.
Abstract
By describing the people who live in "Cornerville," the author was also able to describe the social organization of this economically deprived area. His method of mapping the intricate social worlds of the street gangs and "corner boys" set a standard for sociologists in portraying real people in real situations. The discussion of the author's method of participant observation has served as an essential casebook in field research for generations of students and scholars.
