The security plan presented is designed to protect the lives of all business employees and customers during a riot as well as protect employees' and business owners' livelihoods by securing the store and merchandise. Details of a basic policy are first presented, with a sample written policy statement provided. Once this basic policy is established, a specific individual or group should be designated to implement it by drafting a riot emergency plan and executing it during a riot. At least one of the key executives of the business should be involved in the drafting and implementation of the plan. Cooperative assistance in security planning from other community businesses and appropriate experts is also discussed. The latter include attorneys, insurance agents, fire equipment distributors, and security and protective agencies. Employees and union officials should also be enlisted in security planning. Before the security plan is drafted, a security inspection of the store should be conducted. Aspects of such a survey are detailed in the booklet. Three security plans, each based on particular conditions, are outlined. They encompass conditions, command, notification, staffing, fire protection, security measures, records, currency, deliveries, and closing. Evacuation, post-riot operations, and extortionists are discussed in separate sections.
