Detailed statistical data on California's prison population in calendar year 1993 indicate that 43,149 new felony admissions were received from court and that 86,474 felony inmates were released to parole from California Department of Corrections (CDC) institutions and temporary release status.
Abstract
Of the 43,149 new felony admissions, 2,983 involved drug addicts; 2,176 county diagnostic cases were received. A total of 35,531 felony parole violators returned to custody, and 19,150 felony parole violators returned with a new term from court. Of the 86,474 felony inmates released, 54,213 were first releases to parole and 32,261 were rereleases to parole. A total of 2,116 county diagnostic cases were discharged from CDC institutions and temporary release status; 244 inmates died in CDC institutions or temporary release status; and 4,378 drug addicts were released to outpatient status from CDC institutions or while on temporary release status. Detailed data are tabulated on the inmate population of specific correctional institutions in California and on the number of male and female inmates by State region. Tables and figures
