This document contains projections of institutional, parole, and outpatient populations under California's Department of Corrections (CDC) for fiscal years 1993-1994 through 1998-1999 and includes an update for the March 1994 Three Strikes Law.
Abstract
Between 1983 and 1993, the CDC institutionalized population increased considerably from 39,378 in 1983 to 119,951 in 1993. The 1993 figure is expected to reach 165,685 by June 30, 1999. The parole population is projected to total 123,350 by June 30, 1999, while the number of supervised outpatients is expected to reach 4,401. Factors affecting the population increases are discussed, and specific population projections are presented for felony admissions to CDC institutions, sentence and preconfinement credits, placement needs, parole violators, and the parole population. Provisions of the Three Strikes Law are summarized. 21 tables and 7 figures
