Abstract
Chief of Police Frank Sardino assumed command in March 1992 and began meeting with neighborhood residents to open dialogue and better align the agency's goals to address their concerns. As a result, the agency undertook several initiatives. These include increased public meetings, a gun amnesty program, expanded community policing, and a study of police deployment. These new programs, together with continuing operations, have resulted in a 7-percent reduction in Part I crime from 1991 figures.
