This behavioral analysis of child molesters includes definitions of terms and a law enforcement typology of child molesters and addresses problem areas in law enforcement investigation and handling of child molestation cases, the identification of pedophiles, and child pornography and erotica.
Abstract
The analysis discusses important distinctions among child molesters to guide law enforcement efforts and describes situational child molesters as regressed, morally indiscriminate, sexually indiscriminate, or inadequate. Consideration is also given to preferential child molesters, effects of sexual victimization, the role of law enforcement in preventing child molestation, pedophiles who also have other psychosexual disorders, sex rings, incest cases, female offenders, adolescent offenders, child pornography, the pedophile's defenses, and social attitudes toward child molestation. Appendixes provide further information on search warrants in cases of preferential child molesters and on the sexual victimization of children. 12 references, 3 tables, and 1 figure
