This monograph draws together criminological research and public health perspectives concerning the problem of alcohol- related violence.
Abstract
The papers included here stem from a workshop on multidisciplinary perspectives on alcohol-related interpersonal violence. The goals of the monograph are to provide a comprehensive introduction to the literature on alcohol-related violence, to acquaint alcohol researchers with the criminological literature related to violence, and to provide suggestions for future research in the hope that new studies will eventually reduce the prevalence of alcohol- related violence. Essays in the first section address conceptual and methodological issues across the disciplinary domains and types of violence. The second section presents the perspectives, methodologies, and findings of four academic disciplines, namely sociology, biology, psychology, and economics. The third section of the monograph examines specific types of alcohol-related violence, including spouse and child abuse, and violence committed by persons with comorbid drug and mental disorders.
