The introductory chapter discusses reasons why youths join gangs, the typical structure of a youth gang, indicators of gang involvement, and family risk characteristics. The subsequent five chapters deal individually with Southeast Asian gangs, Black gangs, Hispanic gangs, skinhead gangs, and miscellaneous gangs. Each chapter discusses that type of gang's history, profile, leadership and structure, interactions with other gangs, graffiti, use of weapons, turf, houses and apartments, crimes, school, drug use, hand signs, and future. The final chapter offers recommendations for eliminating gangs from the community through cooperative efforts joined by parents, schools, and youth service centers.
