The Child Protection Program is designed to teach children in New York the skills they need so they can remain safe in their communities, to make parents aware of the information being given to children, to facilitate the efforts of the community to reunite the child and family if a child is abducted, and provide guidelines for police agencies to follow when responding to missing children cases. The children's program is intended for use with grades four through six and should be taught to small groups of children by police officers. The parent education program includes facts about stranger abduction, guidelines on child identification recordkeeping and fingerprint programs, and time for questions and answers. The community materials advise parents to reach out to their family and friends if their child is abducted and suggest ways to organize community efforts.
