These students are at risk of dropping out, becoming involved in juvenile delinquency, become pregnant, or experience other economic or social problems. The OK Club is designed to build self-esteem and provide after-school tutorial support. A strong parent component is required. The Quest for Success Skills Program prepares at-risk sixth graders for junior high school and is conducted during the summer. The Individualized Course Alternative, Now or Never (I-CANN) provides counseling, development of self-esteem, and a hands-on curriculum. It also has a strong parental component. The Student Assistance Council involves a staff team that assesses the needs of at-risk students and recommends actions to address those needs. Although these programs do not provide final solutions, they include components worthy of consideration by other educators serving at-risk students.
