Abstract
The first chapter defines criminal and civil jurisdiction, including juvenile court jurisdiction. Subsequent chapters consider the institution of criminal proceedings (arrest, prosecution, and proceedings against juveniles and corporations), criminal proceedings in court, civil proceedings, and family proceedings. Additional chapters focus on costs in criminal and civil proceedings, traffic offenses and penalties, the availability of legal aid, and appeals to the Crown Court and the High Court. The author notes recent legislation, such as the Children Act of 1989, the Road Traffic Act of 1991, and the Criminal Justice Act of 1991. Appendixes contain practical notes on trial guidelines, evidence, criminal law, and bail, as well as data on trial procedures, pleas, family proceedings, offenses, and penalties. A table of cases is included.
