This report presents information and statistics on the work of the Central Probation Council for 1993/94; its membership represents all 56 probation committees/boards in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Abstract
The Council represents probation committees to government, stakeholders, and the general public and provides services to member probation committees/boards. Key activities are providing a forum and consultancy for members, policy formulation and guidance, lobbying, and promulgating good probation practice. The Council meets in general session three times a year, in addition to the Annual General Meeting. Daily responsibility and oversight is performed by the board, whose members are elected by the General Council. All members are invited to serve on one of the four standing committees, and task-specific working groups are convened as necessary. Increasingly, the Council works in close collaboration with the Association of Chief Officers of Probation. Within the 1993-95 action plan, the Council agreed that attention should be given to four major work areas: transition to probation boards, national resource planning and negotiation, promoting probation, and personnel issues. This report contains a director's report, a treasurer's report, and committee membership and terms of reference.
