Abstract
The curriculum contains 42 "learning domains" (instructional unit that covers related subject matter) that require a minimum of 512 instructional hours. Testing requires an additional minimum of 48 hours. Information on each learning domain addresses instructional goals, required topics, required tests, required learning activities, hourly requirements, origination date, and revision dates. The learning domains include history, professionalism, and ethics; criminal justice system; community relations; handling emotional situations; introduction to criminal law; crimes against property; crimes against persons; and general criminal statutes. Other domains focus on specific types of offenses, various police procedures, and officer management of physical fitness and stress. A learning domain on cultural diversity is also provided. The introduction presents the definitions of terms used to describe testing and training requirements, the testing and training requirements, and a list of the learning domains and the minimum number of hours required for each learning domain.
