This 1992-93 Annual Report of the Hawaii Police Department presents the crime and traffic statistics for this fiscal year and describes the department's crime prevention efforts.
Abstract
After describing the events of the department's celebration of its 50th anniversary, community relations and crime prevention activities are profiled. They include the Neighborhood Watch program, Crime Stoppers, and using "McGruff" to counter shoplifting by juveniles. Updates are provided on the operations of the Automated Fingerprint Identification System and the Emergency 911 system. The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program has been operating 10 years under the leadership of the department. DARE activities are described. Other police crime prevention programs profiled are the Police Activities League, which provides recreational opportunities for youth, and Positive Alternative Gang Education, which is designed to discourage juveniles from joining gangs. Statistics address Index crimes, juvenile arrests, crime clearance, and traffic accidents. A 1992-93 fiscal summary is provided, along with an organizational chart.
