Using information from a literature review and new research findings from a range of international sources, the analysis focuses on the current rates and long-term trends in adolescent homicide and suicide, risk factors, and the relationships between homicide and suicide. Noting that youth suicide and homicide account for 30 percent of all deaths among youths aged 15-24 in the United States, the discussion also considers the relationship between youth violence and the media, patterns and demographic variables among adolescents in the United States and other countries, and potentially effective treatment and prevention approaches.
