Five police officers and firearms experts describe the sidearms they would recommend for use by police.
Abstract
One author suggests that police agencies review their records to assess the types of threats, the distances between police officers and perpetrators of past weapons incidents, and the firearms proficiencies of their officers. He recommends a variety of weapons, depending on particular circumstances. A second writer emphasizes the need for simplicity of operation, along with effectiveness and durability and recommends the DAO Smith and Wesson. Other authors recommend the Sig Sauer Model P-228, the Smith and Wesson Model 25-2, and the Glock Model 22. They also note that the crucial factor in any incident is the police officer and not the particular weapon being used. Photographs
