This volume attempts to summarize the best of current scholarship by family violence researchers from various disciplines. The authors each address the issues and prevention and treatment from the perspective of their various subfields.
Abstract
The first few chapters provide an overview of the research, theory, and current controversies in the field. The authors review recent etiological models of physical and child sexual abuse. Chapters delineating responses to child maltreatment focus on legal responses, treatment and assessment, and prevention. Three chapters deal with various aspects of couples violence: psychological violence in marriage, physical and sexual violence, and a profile of male batterers. Other areas of growing concern addressed in this volume include abuse of the elderly, ethnic diversity, and substance abuse.
