The model incorporates continuity of care as well as correctional elements; it has been implemented in five California prisons and will soon be implemented at additional sites. The program is designed to alleviate clinical symptomatology and enhance institutional coping skills in order to improve level of functioning, reduce dangerous behaviors, increase medication compliance, teach the principles of work ethics, improve self-esteem, assist in the acquisition of socially acceptable interpersonal skills, avert the need for acute inpatient hospitalization, and allow inmates to be housed in the least restrictive environment possible. This document outlines characteristics of the population to be served and treatment programs including intensive outpatient care, transitional outpatient care, partial outpatient care, and maintenance care. Basic treatment modules include daily living skills, medication management, anger management, social skills, group therapy, and prerelease. This paper also describes staffing and treatment planning, intake and treatment assessment, and treatment program evaluation. 11 appendixes
