A fact sheet included in this report indicates that increasing numbers of youths are killed by firearms, and guns in the home are more likely to kill residents than intruders. Also, guns, mostly handguns, are used in the majority of youth homicides. Facts indicate that more youths are bringing guns to school, and guns are used in most youth suicides. Statistics show as well that gunshot injuries are increasing among children, and this is placing a strain on the health care system. Witnesses include law enforcement officials, experts in public health, criminologists, educators, and children who encounter the risk of gun violence. The testimony shows the nature and extent of gun violence by and to juveniles.
