This Fiscal Year 1993 Annual Report of the Illinois Department of Corrections presents information and statistics on the activities of the various offices and divisions, as well as each correctional facility, along with personnel and expenditures.
Abstract
The director's message emphasizes the crime-prevention volunteer work of corrections staff in the community. The Department of Corrections has focused on this theme for a number of years, such that corrections employees have become increasingly involved in community programs that help children develop positive behaviors and attitudes. Another significant step noted by the director was the delivery to the governor of the report of the Governor's Task Force on Crime and Corrections. This year-long study calls for more prison beds and expanded programs to keep repeat offenders from burdening the already overcrowded prisons. The report describes the activities of the Office of the Director and the Office of the Chief Deputy Director. Reports are also provided for the Division of Finance and Administration and the Division of Support Services. The report of the Adult Division contains information on activities in each adult facility, along with statistics on capacity, security classification, average fiscal year 1993 daily population, average inmate age, and the annual average cost per inmate. The Community Service Division presents information and statistics on community-based corrections facilities, and the Juvenile Division reports on juvenile correctional facilities. Data are provided on inmate populations, corrections expenditures, and corrections employees.
